Multicultural Community Service

Thornlie Primary School

The Koondoola and Thornlie Multicultural Community Centre (MCC) provide culturally appropriate and holistic services to support refugee students and their families with complex health, settlement and social/emotional health needs. The Centres use the schools as a hub to deliver services. They are located at Thornlie Primary School and Koondoola Primary School and work closely with the Intensive English Centres (IEC). A range of services are available to students of the Intensive English Centres and their families after they have exited the Humanitarian Settlement Services (HSS).

The Centres are staffed by a Multicultural Community Liaison Worker (from Edmund Rice Centre WA), a Refugee Health Clinical Nurse Specialist (from Child and Adolescent Health Service), a Senior Social Worker (from Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services) and an Administrative Assistant (from Edmund Rice Centre WA).

The Departments of Education and Health work in partnership with the Edmund Rice Centre WA to provide best practice outcomes to Cultural and Linguistically Diverse (CaLD) communities.
